Kabanov Tanssitehdas is more than just a dance school; it is a community where art and life skills go hand in hand
Founded in 1970 by Virva Kabanov, the dance school—now known as Kabanov Tanssitehdas—has left a lasting mark on Finnish dance culture. The school is known for its individualized approach, which emphasizes the student’s own expression and inner growth.
At the dance school, we don’t just teach technique; we help our students discover their own dance and the passion for movement within them. We believe that dance belongs to everyone, and you don’t need a perfect pirouette to be a wonderful dancer. This mindset has inspired many and made the school a place where students can grow both as artists and as people.
Kabanov Tanssitehdas has also shown resilience during difficult times. For example, during the recession of the 1990s, the school remained open, and the sense of community grew even stronger. Virva Kabanov has emphasized the importance of humility and living in the moment, teaching her students life skills alongside dance.
In the memories of the students and their families, the kindness, wisdom, joy, and dedication that prevail at the dance school stand out.
Kabanov Tanssitehdas continues its operations in Tampere, at Klingendahl, offering ballet, contemporary dance, yoga and jazz instruction for all ages. The school has preserved its traditions and values while adapting to the modern era, for example by offering remote classes during the pandemic.
A place where friendship and dance abound—everyone can call it home.
The new dance season 2026–27 marks Tanssitehdas’s 57th year of operation! How wonderful it is to think that the best dance moments are yet to come.
Why choose Kabanov Tanssitehdas
We believe that dance belongs to everyone.
We offer high-quality dance education for children, teens, and adults in an environment where everyone can grow as their true selves. Our teaching is based on artistry, joy, community, and individual development—not competition.
Our teachers are internationally trained dance artists, choreographers, and educators whose expertise is rooted in the world’s most prestigious dance schools and performance stages. We want to make this expertise accessible to every student, regardless of age, level, or goals.
What matters most to us is that dancers find their own way of moving, expressing themselves, and experiencing the joy of success.
Throughout the school year, we also come together for special celebrations. At our Christmas open house and spring dance recital, every student gets the chance to perform and share what they’ve learned with family, friends, and the entire dance community.
At Kabanov Tanssitehdas, top-notch education meets a warm community—a place where everyone gets to shine in their own way.

Joy through dance. Grow and improve. Be proud of your achievements. Shine at your best. Enjoy every moment
Our goal is to offer the opportunity for meaningful, encouraging, goal-oriented, and joyful physical activity in the best possible Kabanov Tanssitehdas. We are proud to once again wish you a wonderful year of dance. May the year be as wonderful and successful for each of our dance enthusiasts as you can make it.
At its meeting on April 9, 2025, the Tampere Culture and Leisure Committee decided on teaching licenses for basic arts education. The committee granted Kabanov Tanssitehdas, the only dance school in Tampere, a fixed-term teaching license for three academic years. The Kabanov Tanssitehdas meets the City of Tampere’s guidelines for basic arts education. This provides a solid foundation for continuing high-quality dance instruction with the support of basic arts education.
Our dance classes culminate annually in a dance performance. The Spring Performance 2027 will be held on May 23 at Pyynikkisali.
